Article Processing Charge (APC)
As an Open Access journal where articles are freely available online for readers and are freely downloadable with no subscription paywalls, we do require some APCs (Article Processing Charges) to cover our article processing and publication expenses.
APCs cover the costs of:
- peer review management
- copy-editing
- Typesetting
- XML and PDF conversion
- PDF and other formats' production
- DOI number costs for each article, [mEDRA service for DOI deposit]
- Indexing (Databases) services
All authors go through APC regardless of the acceptance or rejection conditions of the articles, and this process ensures a fair and transparent peer review process.
* Article Processing and review charge (APC): 500 Euro (VAT included)
PhD students, medical residents, and/or other young health professionals (under 30 years of age): the authors of the submitted manuscript (a maximum of 2 manuscripts per year) must comply with the aims and guidelines of Progress in Nutrition. A maximum of four students may be included among the authors. Mandatory mentorship/tutoring to support students in writing and submitting research manuscripts is required. The mentor’s name must be listed as a co-author and reported in the cover letter. These submissions are exempt from APC (Article Processing Charge).
The APC can be paid by paypal or credit card.
Upon article acceptance, all authors will receive instructions on the APC payment procedure via e-mail.
APC Payment and Withdrawal Policy
By submitting a manuscript to the Journal, the corresponding author confirms that all authors have read and accepted the Journal's publication policies, including the applicable Article Processing Charge (APC), where relevant.
Submission of a manuscript constitutes acceptance of the obligation to pay the applicable APC upon acceptance of the article, unless a waiver or discount has been formally approved by the Publisher before submission or during the initial editorial assessment.
Authors requesting an APC waiver or discount must do so before manuscript submission or, at the latest, before the manuscript enters peer review. Requests submitted after peer review, acceptance, or production has commenced will normally not be considered.
If, after acceptance, the authors decide not to proceed with publication for reasons unrelated to editorial decisions, or fail to fulfil the agreed publication terms, the Publisher reserves the right to request reimbursement of the editorial and production costs already incurred. These costs may include, but are not limited to:
- editorial management;
- peer-review administration;
- scientific editorial assessment;
- copy-editing;
- typesetting and production preparation;
- administrative processing.
In such cases, the Publisher may require payment of a withdrawal or cost-recovery fee, determined in accordance with the stage reached by the manuscript in the publication process and the actual editorial services already provided.
The manuscript will not be formally released for submission elsewhere until all applicable contractual and administrative obligations have been fulfilled and written confirmation of release has been issued by the Publisher.
Nothing in this policy limits the authors' rights to withdraw a manuscript before acceptance, subject to the stage of editorial processing and any applicable contractual obligations.
